What is psychodynamic therapy?
The purpose of psychodynamic therapy is to help you understand how your current feelings and behaviour are related to your past experiences and relationships. We do this by talking through your thoughts, feelings and dreams, as we try to uncover what may lie behind your current feelings and behaviour. Often these are things of which you are unaware or that are perhaps hard to acknowledge.
I will help you in this process by suggesting patterns in your behaviour and links between your present and your past, and through your experience of our therapeutic relationship.
Bringing unacknowledged beliefs and feelings out into the open in a safe space can be transformative. It can allow you to understand yourself more fully, treat yourself with greater compassion and feel more in control of your life.
What can I expect from therapy?
We will meet each week, at the same time on the same day. Sessions will last for 50 minutes and we discuss whatever is on your mind at that time. The premise of psychodynamic therapy is simple: that you come to each session and speak your mind as freely as possible.
In all my work, I am guided by compassion. Whatever your circumstances or life choices, I strive to provide a collaborative, empathic space, where we can explore all aspects of your life and your self together.
My usual fee is £90 per session.
How do I get started?
I know that starting therapy or returning after a long break can feel very daunting. Even just reaching out and taking the first step of making an enquiry can feel like a huge milestone for some people. This is why I offer a free, 15-minute initial phone call following your enquiry. We can briefly discuss your current situation, expectations of therapy and how we might work together.
